I installed Warty Warthog 4.10 and that worked, but with Breezy Badger 5.10, there was no display. The difference is that Warty uses XFree86 for X windows, but Breezy uses Xorg.
With Breezy, I had to choose the vesa video driver instead of ati or fglrx.
At boot, select a terminal and enter
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg and then select the vesa driver.
